This commissioned painting is a view from Evan Hall, a former sugarcane plantation located in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. It was established for the production of sugar by Evan Jones, a merchant and politician in the early 1800's. It was later acquired by Henry McCall, a planter from New Orleans, who built a mansion and slave cabins in 1840. Evan Hall is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
